Day 9 – Goanna Bush cafe and Mandurah

We had to check out of our accommodation this morning so it was all hands on deck getting the car repacked. Good job Jenn & Chris have two big cars as we seem to have a lot of stuff!

Once we were all packed up we left the accommodation. The apartment was jn a fantastic location just steps from the beach but I have to say the bathroom arrangement in the main bedroom was a little odd.

There was an Ensuite bathroom in what I can only describe as a conservatory within the bedroom.

It did feel rather like a goldfish bowl !

Other than that minor weirdness it had been excellent and the walk to the beach was superb.

The walk to the beach. (That’s the entire walk)

Once we were all packed up we set off to the Goanna Bush cafe. The drive there was very pretty along tree lined roads.

I did get very excited at one point when I spotted a field full of Kangaroos until a second look confirmed they were in fact grey sheep. I don’t think I’ve seen grey sheep before!?

The cafe was lovely. We had a table waiting for us and we mostly all had pancakes although Phil had bacon and eggs and Jenn opted for an Indo breakfast which looked a lot like Fried Rice!

After breakfast we had a short walk through a sculpture garden

We had seen a market advertised in Busselton so we decided to visit before we drove back home. https://originsmarket.com.au This was possibly the poshest market I’ve ever seen. With a large number of food stalls and also artisan items for sale. On the way in Charlotte spotted a scavenger hunt so she and Lucy went off to answer all the questions

There was an actual beehive within the market. The bees had a tube to take them outside. Like a little bee superhighway.

As we were looking at the beehive. Who should appear but the Easter Bunny. Charlotte was excited to get a photo but Lucy declared him rather creepy. She’s not wrong. (That’s the Bee Highway in the background)

After we had completed the scavanger hunt we moved onto the delights of Kmart. This one was much nicer than the one we had previously visited in Perth CBD and we picked up various Easter articles. I’m after a new backpack as the zipper is broken on mine. I still haven’t found the perfect one. As we get closer to our departure date I suspect I will have to get less fussy but for today I declared them all not quite right.

After Kmart is was time to hit the road. We drove 2 hours North back to Mandurah where we stopped for a coffee and cake. We arrived just as all the shops were closing but fortunately the bakery must have realised we were good for a big order as they stayed open so we could enjoy a snack. The cakes in here were superb!

After our cake stop and a quick trip into a Christmas shop to buy a suitably Australian ornament (kangaroo wearing a Santa hat ?! ) we took a walk across the bridge to admire the expensive boats and look for Dolphins.

It was getting late and quite chilly so it was time to return to the cars and head home. It was about another hour in the car. Via an interesting tour of the Mandurah suburbs as Chris and the SatNav argued over which way to leave the city.

Some of the younger members of the party are very excited about the visit of the Easter bunny tomorrow and have been writing many notes to him to ensure he knows to leave plenty of Easter Eggs!
