Sky Princess. Travel and embarkation day.

We are off on a cruise. 2 weeks on the Sky Princess from Southampton to the sun and back.

At least I hope there’s some sun!

This is our first holiday as a two for quite a long time. Just Phil and I. The girls are at Uni and work.

We booked an inside cabin as we didn’t want to spend a fortune on the cruise and the inside cabins were a great price. But then I started to wonder if I would find an inside cabin a bit claustrophobic for 2 weeks. We have done insides before but not for that long.

We got an email to say we could bid for an upgrade so I put in the minimum bid for an outside cabin which was rejected. And then 2 days before the cruise we got an email to say we had an obstructed view balcony. So I was excited to see the cabin and discover how obstructed the view might be.

We travelled down to Southampton and stayed at the Novotel the night before. The journey was fairly painless and we were in Southampton for lunchtime so we had a mooch around the shops. It was very warm, which definitely put us in the holiday mood.

We had a view of the Queen Victoria from our hotel room.

We had dinner at TGI Fridays which was across the car park from our hotel.

In the morning we had a McDonald’s breakfast and then just waited in the hotel for a while. Princess don’t have boarding slots and we decided we’d rather be waiting in the terminal than in the hotel room. So about 10:30 we got an Uber over to the port and we were straight through check in and onto the ship. Just a minor blip as our Medallions were still registered under our original room number but a very easy process. We were on board by 11:30am.

We made our way to the top deck and decided to start as we meant to go on and test out the drinks package.

Phil had a Whiskey Sour and I had a mocktail – Key West Cooler. I’m very much a light weight so I’m going to tread carefully with the cocktails or I’ll end up asleep for the entire cruise.

After about an hour the cabins were available so we went to see what we’d been given. It’s actually a very nice cabin and not very obstructed at all.

There is a life raft to the side but nothing directly in front. I’m very pleased with it.

We have a relaxing afternoon. Eating (frequently it seems). Reading and exploring the ship. The cruise has quite a few sea days so I am hoping we can come back refreshed and not exhausted like we would after a Florida holiday.

We also did a trivia about the ship. So all my excessive research came in handy and we got 19/20 which wasn’t a winning score.

The ship sailed away about 5pm and we had dinner and then watched a singer. Probably the less said about the singer the better…..
